Where to witness the best sunsets in the Margaret River region
Western Australia is blessed with some of the most picture perfect sunset opportunities on the planet. Watching the golden glow reaching across the sky as the sun sizzles like yolk into the horizon after a blistering summer’s day … it’s like nothing else.
Cap off a day of sun, sand and sea, and discover the best sunset spots in the Margaret River region.
Sugarloaf Rock
Visit one of the region’s favourite (and truly ancient) landmarks to witness the raw power of the ocean. Skirted by a stretch of blue-green water and swirls of white foam, conditions can change with the snap of your fingers – spectacularly treacherous one moment, enticing for fishermen the next. You can view the mighty craggy rock safely from the observation deck above.
Yallingup Hill
This chilled out surfer village is the one of the most perfect and magical places to take in a sunset. With green hills sweeping upwards from sprawling Yallingup Beach, homes clinging to the sides and hidden between trees, you have an uninterrupted jaw-dropping sunset view from just about anywhere.
Cape to Cape Track lookout
There’s a little section between Canal Rocks and The Aquarium that is a must visit for any sunset lover. Take in the view from Kathleen’s Seat lookout, then wander north to take a dip in the glittering waters of The Aquarium. Wrap yourself up snuggly as you enjoy a contemplative dusk.
Smiths Beach Lookout
Angled slightly further north, the sunset view here isn’t directly over the water but it’s nonetheless lovely. Pack a picnic and dine on the long white stretch of beach, having a chat and relax while people play ball games nearby. As the sun dips below the landscape to the west, best replica watches amble to the end of the car park (yes, a car park) for the most gorgeous final view.
Cowaramup Bay, Gracetown
Embrace the warmth of the sunshine as it spills over your body. This is a late afternoon meditative walk as you dip your toes in the sand, scouting for colourful shells along the quiet coastline. You might not even pass another soul on your stroll.
Cape Leeuwin
Dramatic doesn’t even begin to describe the scenery. Take in the vista from Leeuwin Lighthouse before heading to the track, with burnt orange rocks, deep sage-coloured native plants, and a kaleidoscope of hues overhead. The heavens seem to stretch on for infinity.
