The ultimate meat lovers trail through the Margaret River region

From that fresh juicy cut you just know will make a perfect fall-apart brisket, to tantalising salami bursting with flavour: meat-lovers, you’re in for a treat. This is your very own foodie trail, meandering throughout the best of WA’s South West fine dining restaurants, steakhouses, wineries, and boutique retail outlets that will quench your carnivorous needs. Let us take you on a journey, south to north, starting at magical forested Karridale and finishing at beachy Busselton.

The ultimate South West meat lovers trail: 10 of the best eateries

Glenarty Road

Deep in the South West in lush Karridale, Glenarty Road is a welcoming farm-to-table family-run eatery. Rustic, feel good food that will have you patting your tummy happily afterwards. Order the ‘Feast’ featuring grass-fed free-range meat from their farm, or try ‘Graze’ which has everything you’d want from a relaxed afternoon in the country: charcuterie with goodies like pâté, candied cumquat, pork rillette, local cheese and crudites. There’s also a kids menu with farm sausages.

Leeuwin Estate

As one of WA’s best restaurants, you are virtually guaranteed an out-of-this-world dining experience. Amelia Park lamb, wagyu beef, Wagin duck, kangaroo, Harvey Beef tartare, Margaret River venison – whatever is being offered on the seasonal menu will knock your socks off. Choose from the three- or six-course degustation with museum release wines, throw in the breathtaking view, and you have yourself an unforgettable afternoon.

El Toro

Nobody does barbecue quite like the South Americans and, luckily for us, we have El Toro dishing up incredible fare to Margaret River visitors and locals. From the grill, choose a mouth-watering rump, striploin, or Scotch fillet, all served with tomato salad, jus, and authentic chimichurri. Or tuck into a charred half-chicken, Mexican street corn, pulled beef taco, or a little guac. For the whole shebang, order yourself a top shelf tequila or tangy margarita, or try a real Mexican cola.

Blue Ginger Fine Foods

You want a quiet evening indoors, but you still want to satisfy your cravings. Never fear, Blue Ginger Fine Foods is here. This Margaret River favourite stocks an impressive amount of local, national, and international treats for your grazing plate – scrummy cheeses, woodfired bread, antipasto nibbles, and, of course, the luscious smallgoods. They’re also stockists of the food produced by renowned butchery and smokehouse, The Farm House.

Pizzica Pizzeria

Arguably the best pizza joint in the entire Margaret River region, Pizzica also offers wonderful charcoal grill and Italian meats like porchetta, beef cheek, lamb shank, and sausages. A little spice, a hint of charcoal crust, and all piping hot fresh from the hands of your Italian chefs. You’ll also love the quaint forest-like setting, which is perfect for date nights and cosy evenings with friends and family.

Margaret River Venison

Branch out and sample products you’ve never tried (or perhaps never even seen) before at Margaret River Venison’s farm shop in Gracetown. There are fresh cuts of venison in all forms such as fillets, osso bucco, and pocket roast, plus meats like crocodile, emu and kangaroo, and even free range duck eggs. They also stock a large range of smallgoods to fashion your own charcuterie board at home, including salami, pâté, cheeses and preserves.

Amelia Park Restaurant

This stellar Wilyabrup restaurant has a lot going for it, including being featured in the Good Food Guide 2020. The French-inspired bistro fare is lovingly crafted from local produce by renowned chef Blair Allen. While it depends what the team is currently offering, big hits include the lamb rack, slow cooked pork belly, dry aged bone on striploin, and lamb shoulder (diners absolutely rave about this one, so be sure not to miss it if you see it). All this washed down with one of their high-end wines or a fresh negroni while gazing out over the tranquil vineyard vista.

Burgertron

Now that you’ve arrived at the cool kid in town, settle in with the fattest cheeseburger you’ve ever laid your eyes on at Burgertron. Otherwise, pick the catchiest burger name on the menu (fancy The Karaage Kid or The Colonel, anyone?). If you want the whole nine yards, try the Old Mac with a beef patty, free range chicken, bacon, fried egg, cheddar, hickory-smoked barbecue sauce, plus salad.

Shelter Brewing Co

Head to Shelter Brewing Co for divine beef brisket. Picture this: a 12h slow-cooked grain-fed brisket, complemented with salsa, tortillas, and fresh coriander, pairing perfectly with their unique selection of beers. Beneath a peaceful dusk, overlooking historic Busselton Jetty, waves caressing the sand, and the foreshore playground nearby to occupy the kids. This has all the makings of a memorable holiday evening in the South West.

Pan & Grill

Sometimes you’re hankering for a no-frills big steak and chips. Welcome to Pan and Grill, the pub-style restaurant in Busselton that dishes up some pretty amazing meals. Think schnitzel, parmigiana, surf ‘n’ turf, or a selection of char-grilled meats. What really makes this eatery stand out from the competition, however, are the rib combos: sit down to a half or full rack of pork ribs with coleslaw, chips, prawns and more.
