That Summer Feeling…
If you’re dreaming of an utterly idyllic luxury beachside escape with glittering aquamarine waters and creamy white sand, consider this your cheerful ‘welcome to Bunker Bay’. An unbelievable paradise nestled in the cosy corner of WA’s South West.
Get to know Bunker Bay
You’ll find Bunker Bay just a ten-minute drive north-west of the buzzing tourist mecca, Dunsborough. It’s the best of both worlds here: the wineries and food havens of the region are just a stone’s throw away, but you can retreat into tranquil relaxation and privacy when the day is done.
Popular attractions include Cape Naturaliste lighthouse which dates back to 1904, beautiful Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, and Sugarloaf Rock – the perfect vantage point to watch the sunset.
Nature lovers wanting to take in deep gulps of fresh air and experience the local area on foot, try nearby Bunker Bay Loop. This 3.6km moderate difficulty trail will take between one and three hours, depending on how fast you walk. You can find out more at Trails WA. After the hike, visit Shelley Cove on the western edge of Bunker Bay where the water is packed with colourful shells, pretty sea glass and underwater rocks for a great snorkelling opportunity. And if you prefer to be above the waves, try your hand at stand-up paddleboarding.
Bunker Bay is the envy of the whale watching world from September through December. The southern right, humpback, and sometimes even rarely-seen blue and minke whales can be spotted from here. Many species were almost hunted to extinction in the 19th and 20th century, so it’s a poignant experience to see these gentle giants cruising our waters in ever-growing numbers.
