Mothers’ Group getaways to the Margaret River region

Imagine waking up in a cloud of soft pillows and a feathery doona all to yourself. The sun is streaming in, the birds are chirping sweetly and a gentle breeze is rustling the leaves outside your window. You listen for noise inside the house… silence. Nobody is yelling for your attention. Now your thoughts drift to the day’s plans: a lazy brunch on the balcony overlooking the beach or maybe head out to a winery for a degustation lunch with amazing company?

Welcome to your mothers’ group weekend getaway.

We know mums need time out every now and again, so we’ve created a few example itineraries for your much-needed escape. You don’t have to stick to these though. You can create any plan you like, or none at all and just see where the wind takes you.

Suggested itinerary #1: Cape Naturaliste region, Dunsborough

Day 1

Start the weekend in style and head out for a flawless dinner at one of the region’s best eateries, Yarri Bar + Restaurant in Dunsborough.

Day 2

Wake from your restful slumber in a big bed all to yourself and spend a leisurely morning chatting over a cup of coffee (no interruptions – bliss!)

Picquet, Eagle Bay. You could lie in bed all day staring out across the bay.

We think the first full day of the weekend should start with a private massage therapist kneading away your stress. Afterwards, when you’re feeling rejuvenated, hop aboard a wine tour (or a cheese tour) stopping at venues like Aravina Estate, Amelia Park Wines, Vasse Felix and Wills Domain. You could also drop by one of the region’s chocolatiers.

After a big day out, you might want to enjoy your beautiful holiday home: play some board games, read a book or watch a movie with the ladies in front of the open fire. Hot chocolate and nibbles are a must.

Boomerang House, Dunsborough

Day 3

Why not look into a whale watching cruise? Dunsborough is one of the best places in the world to do this, as Geographe Bay’s whale “nursery” is just off the coast.

Tours are typically around two hours so now it’s time for lunch. The Dunsborough/Yallingup area has a number of outstanding breweries (even if you don’t drink beer, they are well worth the visit). Great options include Wild Hop, Eagle Bay Brewing Co and Black Brewing Co. For something different, book a gourmet picnic in a glamorous tipi on the beach – all you have to do is turn up.

Can’t be bothered cooking but don’t fancy going out? Call dinner party experts Epicuriosity. This husband and wife chef team will provide great meals, wine, and plenty of laughs and activities for you and your girlfriends.

Bunker Bay, a long stretch of pristine white sand

Day 4

Before you check out and head home, sneak down for a morning walk or take a quick dip at an idyllic South West beach such as Eagle Bay, Meelup or Bunker Bay. You could always fit in breaky at Bunkers Beach House.

Suggested itinerary #2: Cape Leeuwin region, Margaret River

Day 1

Kick the weekend off with dinner at Miki’s Open Kitchen in Margaret River. You’ll be treated to the region’s most outstanding modern Japanese degustation.

Day 2

Shake off your built-up tension with yoga. We can organise an instructor to come to your accommodation for a gentle mid-morning session. Or, duck in to a yoga class in town or on the beach.

Now we’re off on a personalised wine tour. Maybe have a tasting at Cape Mentelle and Stella Bella, then a heavenly lunch at an iconic, award-winning venue such as Leeuwin Estate or Voyager Estate. For something extra special, take a look at an indulgent wine experiences – these are no ordinary wine tours.

There’s no need to cook dinner. You do enough of that at home! Our concierge service can organise a casual dining hamper for a night in, down at the beach watching the sunset or at Cape Mentelle’s outdoor movies (screenings December through March).

Day 3

Explore the region with a morning walk along the Cape to Cape track. A great option is Rivermouth to Gnarabup, 3 km one way, or maybe do a tour of the spectacular caves along Caves Road.

Follow this up with a casual lunch. We like Glenarty Road, Olio Bello, Rustico at Hay Shed Hill and Fishbone Wines. Walk off your lunch and wander around the shops of Margaret River and Cowaramup, or head home to lie down in a satisfied food coma.

Celebrate your final evening with a local chef whipping up a gourmet meal in your holiday home kitchen. A great option is George Cooper of Tiller Dining, who grows his own produce. The concierge can even organise a local winemaker to pair the wines and visit prior to the dinner for an in-house wine-tasting experience.
