Get into the festive spirit down south this Christmas
If, like many people, you’re leaving the city behind and heading down for Christmas, there is plenty going on to help you celebrate the festive season.
Sing-a-long to carols
In true Margaret River fashion, there’s no event that can’t be improved upon by hosting it in a vineyard. This Christmas the St George’s Choir will lead a Carols by Candlelight at Rivendell Estate. It’s a stunning location, nestled among the rolling hills of Yallingup.
The carol singing starts at 4pm on December 18, at the winery, located at 1172 Wildwood Road, Yallingup. Food will be available from the outdoor kitchen, so take your picnic blanket for a wonderful, cosy evening suitable for singles and families alike.
Lights twinkle for Christmas
Just because you’re far away from the bright lights of the city, doesn’t mean you need to miss out on incredible Christmas light displays. The people of Margaret River have a reputation as expert Christmas decorators, with many residents going to great lengths to bring festive cheer to the town.

Get down to the beach for a barbecue
All over the country Aussies will descend on their favourite beaches to enjoy Christmas on the beach. Locally, Meelup Beach is a particularly popular spot for Christmas day celebrations. It has a big shady park, which is great to get out of the heat of the sun, barbecue facilities, picnic benches, and beach with lovely calm water — which is great for the little ones, too.
