Get cosy this winter with Yallingup’s best breweries
WA’s South West is positively frothing with world-class craft breweries. We’ve previously written about the best establishments offering great brews and meals along Geographe Bay, from Busselton to Eagle Bay. And we’ll cover Margaret River’s summertime options at a later date, so check back for that. For today’s post, we happily explored the best breweries in the bountiful Yallingup area. These are absolutely perfect year round, but we do have a soft spot for the cosy atmosphere during winter.
Wild Hop Brewing Company
Sit by the window in the afternoon with the western sun warm on your back, as you taste test the beer paddle and savour the shared family-style food. You won’t find the usual brewery/pub cuisine here; instead get stuck into the dishes hot from the wood-fired rotisserie oven. The small batch brews are always changing, so there’s no chance of getting bored. In fact, the only one the team keeps on regular rotation is the Short Shorts Czech Pilsner. Wild Hop is a friendly place for your little ‘uns, so let them run wild on the playground or kick a ball about on the grassed area.
Why you’ll love it: The rotating list of beers so you’ll always find something new and interesting
Where: 1301 Wildwood Rd, Yallingup
Beerfarm
This top-notch brewery on an old dairy farm is a must-visit in the South West. It’s casual, child-friendly (waterslide available for use when it’s hot and sunny) and dog-friendly, and has a wonderful jovial atmosphere inside the giant barns. The brews here are well regarded with a recent win at the Australian International Beer Awards for ‘Consistency of Excellence’. Weekends are bustling with locals and visitors and their Smokin’ Saturdays are a hit! You could even drop into the Beerfarm for a refreshing ale after exploring the nearby mountain bike tracks at Middle Earth.
Why you’ll love it: The quirky craft beers and rustic feel
Where: 177 Gale Rd, Metricup
Black Brewing Co
If you want a brewery outing with a classy touch, you need to get yourself down to Black Brewing. It feels a little like a winery inside, with a large stone fireplace complete with comfy sofas, lightbulbs strung across the ceiling and a superb view across the lake complete with a fountain. The food is definitely something to write home about too, with items like sashimi and baked truffle honey brie on the menu. There’s also Dune Distilling on the same premises, with excellent gins on offer.
Why you’ll love it: The stone fireplace with leather lounges, perfect for a toasty warm day indoors
Where: 3517 Caves Rd, Wilyabrup
Cheeky Monkey Brewpub
This is your more traditional style of brewery, and Cheeky Monkey does it well. You’ve got plates of burgers, fried chicken, wings, and pizzas to gobble as you have a natter with your pals at the tall tables. Kids are very welcome (dogs too) and there’s a great shaded playground out the back, but when it gets chilly you can head indoors to warm your hands by the fireplace. As for the main attraction – the beer – Cheeky Money was just awarded ‘Best Australian Style Pale Ale’ in 2022 at the Australia International Beer Awards, so get ready for some seriously tasty brews.
Why you’ll love it: The snug and laidback vibe you’d expect from a brewery, plus the fenced-in playground
Where: 4259 Caves Rd, Wilyabrup
