Easter long weekend art exhibitions
Art does something, triggers something, deep within the human mind – much like music does. Even if you like art but you don’t think you “get” it or even if you think it’s not your cup of tea, the truth is, we all naturally understand and appreciate art on some level. Art is older than the written word, and we have been admiring our creative handiwork ever since we learned to pick up tools.
Exploring an exhibition and letting the mind ponder at leisure is one of life’s great pleasures, and the South-West is fortunate to have a number of art galleries that cater to all artistic tastes. We’ve found what’s on, where, and when this Easter long weekend, so it’s time to put away the bunnies and the eggs and treat your senses to something other than chocolate.

Vintage Portraits, Classic Paintings
This is an exhibition with a difference. Gifted photographer Richard Woldendorp pairs portraiture photographs with the works of the artist in question. It brings a different element to the pieces when they are sitting side by side with their creator.

Three artists with an eye for the classically beautiful: Felicia Aroney, Eileen Gordon and Grant Donaldson. Felicia’s paintings feature attractive, bold florals, while Eileen and Grant are a glassblowing power duo, bringing to life glass creations bursting with colour and vitality.

Easter Exhibition
Three exceptional artists will have their work showcased here over the Easter break.
This includes Nellie Crawford, distinguished contemporary still life artist, whose representation of the seemingly mundane everyday item evokes a feeling of tranquility.

Also featured is Larry Mitchell, who produces beautiful pieces that focus on the natural environment, such as vast seascapes and landscapes. Rounding out the trio is Douglas Kirsop, whose serene landscape artwork emits a sense of spiritual connection with the land.

Judy Rogers: Body from the Suitcase
The human form has been scrutinised, admired and recreated artistically since the dawn of creative expression. Judy Rogers’ latest collection, a travelling exhibition which spent four weeks in 2018 in St Petersburg, explores this popular theme through mixed media sculptures and paintings. Rather than showing the body as a whole, Judy has captured fragmented views of limbs and faces in a restrained colour palette.

Beyond Karijini: The Pilbara and Cheela Plains. One Landscape – 4 Responses
Artists Mel Brigg, Lori Pensini, Joanne Duffy and Simon Hemsley packed up their brushes and paints and immersed themselves in the extraordinary, ancient Pilbara region of Western Australia. It’s fascinating to see how people interpret the same landscape so very differently, but all equally moving.
