Celebrating Chinese New Year in Australia’s South-West
As the beginning of the Lunar Year of the Rooster draws closer, millions of people around the world prepare to celebrate the Chinese New Year on 28 January, 2017.
Celebrations will begin on New Year’s Eve, 27 January, and will continue into early February. For most, the occasion is celebrated with family gatherings, gift giving and, of course, looking ahead to learn what the sign of the Rooster will mean for the coming year.
This year, feng shui experts advise people remain careful in the areas of security, finance and business. However as a “peach blossom luck” year, we can look forward to favourable romantic relationships. To harness success in the Year of the Rooster, people of all animal years must embody typically ‘rooster’ traits including loyalty, commitment, hard work and family values.
Chinese New Year in Australia’s South-West
With its close proximity to Asia, there are always plenty of celebrations welcoming the New Year in Western Australia, and the Margaret River region is no exception.
To celebrate in style, you can’t go past the Leeuwin Estate Chinese New Year Degustation. Inspired by one of the upcoming year’s ‘lucky’ colours, the golden eight-course meal is available with or without wine pairing and runs from 21 January to 5 February, 2017.
For something a little more family friendly, why not visit the annual Bunbury Chinese New Year Festival, held this year on 11 February? The festival is a free event open to all ages, aiming to showcase the best of Chinese culture. Whether you’re interested in anything from feng shui to calligraphy or mask painting, you’re bound to find something for you and your family in this vibrant festival.
